So that's what gets to trouble me for the next three weeks. ^__^; At least I'm not worrying about costumes this time around.
A Quote to Live By.
Though I'm still not going to do a full on review of Alexander because I have so much stuff to do artwise, I'll just share a quote from the movie which I really liked. It was delivered by Christopher Plummer as Aristotle. Though it speaks of homosexual relations in particular, I think it could be applied to hetero relations as well.
Excess in all things is the undoing of men. When men lie together in lust, it is a surrender to the passions and does nothing for the excellence in us. Nor does any excess, jealousy among them. But when men lie together, and knowledge and virtue are passed between them, that is pure and excellent. When they compete to bring out the good, the best in each other, this is the love between men that can build a city-state and lift us from our frog pond.
I'll just say it was worth the watch. It had lots of violence of course given that it's an epic battle movie. It demonstrated the destructive nature of wanting more than you can have and how it can make you appreciate what you do have, especially when it's suddenly taken from you. So really, one's undoing through excess. The ending tied up loose ends in sort of a cop out kinda way, but really they didn't need to take the movie beyond it's already near 3-hour time frame. Also the loose ends were kind of about stuff after Alexander's passing, so yeah. Stuff.
Okay, so that was a quickie review. My next one will compare the two movies and the novel of the Stepford Wives. Time to bleed my pens dry. Current Mood: busy Current Music: Irish Blood, English Heart - Morrisey
